Drew Hawkins is eyeing a third trip to state in boys cross country. The Hardin-Central senior, who plays football f or the Norborne Hardin-Central varsity 8-man co-op team, is scheduled to run Saturday at the Class 1 District 4 meet at Platte Ridge Park, located near Platte City. Hawkins returned to training this week after being sidelined “for several weeks” from a football-related injury, Bulldogs coach Jenni Scott stated Wednesday via email. If Hawkins places among the top 30, including finishers on state-qualifying teams, then he’ll qualify for the Class 1 state boys race, per Missouri State High School Activities Association regulations. The state race is slated to begin at 9 a.m. Nov. 3 at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia. In 2022, Hawkins qualified for state by placing 24th in 20 minutes, 31.74 seconds at districts.
