Hawkins secures third trip to state
Drew Hawkins is a state qualifier in boys cross country again.
The Hardin-Central senior punched his ticket for state with his 30th-place finish at Class 1 District 4 competition Oct. 28 at Platte Ridge Park. Per Missouri State High School Activities Association rules, the top 30 runners qualified, including runners on schools that qualified as a team.
Hawkins, who finished the 3.1-mile race in 20 minutes, 19.29 seconds, “did what was necessary to secure a spot for state,” Hardin-Central coach Jenni Scott stated Monday via email.
“This was a difficult meet for him not only because of (the) weather, but (also for) not having … (run) or competed the last several weeks,” Scott wrote.
A dual-sport fall athlete, Hawkins was sidelined after suffering a concussion while playing varsity 8-man football for the Norborne Hardin-Central 8-man coop.
