Hardin-Central and Orrick each got through the first round of districts in both varsity girls and boys basketball. Orrick opened the girls portion of the Class 1 District 13 Tournament by edging Winston 3128 Monday at Norborne, the host for both the girls and boys brackets. With the victory, Orrick advanced to face Hardin-Central Wednesday in the semifinals of the singleelimination postseason competition. Hardin-Central advanced by crushing the Southwest of Livingston County/ Breckenridge co-op 75-19 Monday. On the boys side, Orrick advanced with a 72-43 win over Norborne Tuesday, completing a season sweep of the Pirates. Orrick cruised to a 62-31 victory when the teams met Jan. 9 at Norborne. The Orrick boys advanced to meet Winston in the semifinals Thursday. They last faced the Redbirds in 2023 during regular-season play, winning 48-40 at Orrick.
