H-C girls like seeing ‘different faces’ at combined summer practice

On June 22, Libby Fifer, Hannah Finley and their Hardin-Central varsity girls basketball teammates did something they hadn’t done before: They participated in a combined practice. For a few hours that afternoon, the Bulldogs hosted Orrick (see also June 30 issue). The two Missouri Highway 10 schools worked on dribbling and shooting drills, and scrimmaged briefly. “I think it’s good for us to kind of just get some practice (in) before (the) season starts … – see where we are, see what we need to improve on,” Fifer said. It also was nice “going up against different skill levels – and up against different people and different faces,” Finley said. Tommy Burton, Hardin-Central’s new varsity girls coach and varsity assistant coach, agreed. “The (greater) amount of different looks, I think the more successful we’ll be in the season,” Burton said. “And it gets tiring going against the same girl, over and over and over. … I think this was a fun experience for both teams.” It’s an…
