Doyle, Gibson finish careers with card game, all-star gridiron win

ST. JOSEPH – Years from now, when J.W. Doyle and Kobe Gibson reflect on participating in the 2023 Missouri 8-Man Football Coaches Association All-Star Game, they’ll probably remember how they were part of a 22-20 comeback victory by the Green All-Stars. But their fondest memory connected to the multiday experience might be of a card game. Before playing for the Green All-Stars as representatives of Norborne Hardin-Central (NHC) in the June 24 showcase, Doyle and Gibson stayed in dorm rooms at the game site, Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph. They also practiced and had opportunities for socializing. One of their socializing activities was a game of pitch. They were part of a foursome that also consisted of current Orrick student athlete Tucker Greer, a waterboy for the Green All-Stars; and their former coach, Kirk Thacker, now entering his third season as Orrick’s varsity coach.
