COVID causes postponement for Richmond softballers

RICHMOND – The Spartans got an unexpected break in their varsity softball schedule Tuesday. The Spartans were slated to host Knob Noster that day at Southview Park. But the Missouri River Valley Conference East Division meeting was postponed because the Panthers are under a COVID-19 quarantine, Richmond coach Staci Maddux stated Wednesday by email. Richmond had played four games in three days before the break. The Spartans played three games Sept. 19 at the Laddonia Tournament, where they went 3-0 and took first, defeating host school Community 7-2, Highland 2-1 and North Calloway 8-5. “I was very proud of the … (girls’) performance,” Maddux stated. On Monday, the Spartans hosted Excelsior Springs in MRVC non-divisional action, falling 8-2.
