Confidence, Douglas propel NHC past Slater

An attitude change helped Norborne Hardin-Central (NHC) cruise to a 70-34 win Sept. 8 over Slater at Hardin-Central, Denver Douglas and Jaden Barrett agreed. A 300-yard rushing performance from Douglas probably didn’t hurt either. The Aggies (1-2) were cocky entering their varsity 8-man football season, Douglas said Monday on the NHC practice fields at Hardin-Central. But they were confident, rather than cocky, entering their meeting with Slater, he said. “We wanted to win,” Douglas said. “We wanted to go 1-2.” Rather than confident, Barrett used a different word. “(We) were prepared,” said Barrett, a Hardin-Central sophomore. “That’s what I like to say. We weren’t confident; we were prepared.” NHC’s prepared offensive line pushed Slater’s defensive line off the line of scrimmage, according to Douglas, who officially amassed 326 yards and six touchdowns on 31 carries. “They pushed to the whistle,” said Douglas, a senior at Hardin-Central. “They did their jobs – like they’re…
