CONCORDIA – Orrick softball fans got to see the Bearcats display their 2024 jerseys in their last game of 2023. The Bearcats wore the black jerseys with yellow letters and numbers on May 5, when they fell to Kingsville 17-1 in four innings in the Class 1 District 8 Tournament at the Concordia Ballpark Complex. The jerseys had arrived a few days earlier, according to first-year coach Taylor Golden. “They were very excited that they came … just in time for the game today,” Golden said. Kierstin McElwee-Butler was among the Bearcats who sported the new threads. They were a hit with her. “I could’ve gone with a size smaller, but that’s O.K.,” she said. McElwee-Butler also drove in Orrick’s lone run. With Kingsville leading 10-0 in the top of the fourth, the junior smacked a two-out single to right field to score Natasha Hicks.
