’Cats make history by achieving sectional victory

ORRICK – On Feb. 26, Orrick senior Ethan Wilson and his fellow Bearcats enjoyed the sweet taste of winning a second straight district boys basketball title when they defeated Southwest of Livingston County 62-52 at Norborne. That flavor, however, could not compare with the sweetness of Orrick’s 61-50 Class 1 Sectional 7 win Tuesday night over visiting Grundy County/ Newtown-Harris in front of a raucous crowd that included members of Richmond’s varsity boys basketball team. The reason: It was the school’s firstever sectional win in boys or girls basketball. “We just made school history. ... Never had a feeling like this before in basketball,” Wilson, who contributed 12 points, said. Orrick varsity boys coach Matt Brownsberger agreed. “No team in Orrick’s been this far, that we know of,” Brownsberger said. “And being in a state playoff, state tournament game, sectional game on our home floor in front of our fans – and Grundy’s were great as well – … it was just a great atmosphere…
