’Cats expect ‘trick plays’ from Trailblazers in district clash

Orrick varsity coach Kirk Thacker knows what to expect from Northland Christian coach Seth Bass Friday night, when Thacker’s Bearcats and Bass’ Trailblazers meet in 8-man football at Simmons Field in the District 4 Tournament. “I’ve known him a long time,” Thacker said Monday afternoon. “I know he’s going to run a lot of trick plays. In fact, I saw quite a few on film.” Orrick senior Jaxon Miller is expecting trick plays from the Trailblazers (2-7), too. During video study, the Bearcats “saw about three or four trick plays in their last game,” Miller said. “Our defensive backs, we (have each) got to do our job and focus on our man and not let them blow the coverage,” he said. Thacker and junior offensive/defensive lineman Tucker Greer also expect the Trailblazers to run a spread offense, as the Bearcats do. “They’re definitely a pass-heavy team,” Greer said. “And when you’re going against pass-heavy teams, you kind of know what to expect.
