Bearcats make double-digit lead stick, cruise past Santa Fe
ORRICK – The memory of a lead that got away helped fuel the Bearcats during the second half of their latest meeting with Santa Fe.
Orrick led 26-14 at halftime of the Oct. 9 Central Rivers Conference I-70 Division varsity 8-man football clash at Simmons Field. A week earlier, the Bearcats had held a double-digit halftime lead – 34-20 against visiting Worth County/Northeast Nodaway, only to fall 56-40.
“That was hanging over us like a shadow, you could tell, because we … should’ve won that game,” junior wide receiver/cornerback/linebacker Chanler Woods said. “But we weren’t going to let that happen twice.”
The Bearcats made the shadow of Worth County/Northeast Nodaway disappear by outscoring Santa Fe 29-12 the second half for a 55-26 win. Orrick also romped past Santa Fe 38-6 Sept. 25 at Alma in an 11th-hour schedule-filler.
