Battagler joins elite group with golfing feat

Morgan Battagler couldn’t believe it. Playing in a varsity boys golf quadrangular April 12 at Shirkey Golf Course, the Richmond junior hit a drive off tee No. 2. Uncertain where his ball had gone because of the sun, he searched for it “around the green for a solid two minutes,” he recalled Tuesday afternoon at Shirkey. Unable to find it, Battagler let a member of the group play out the hole. When the other golfer finished putting, two golf balls were discovered in the cup. The reason: Battagler had made a hole-in-one. “My heart was pumping so fast I didn’t even know what to think,” he said. It was the first-ever hole-in-one for Battagler, who started playing golf as a middle schooler. Now that he has done it, he hopes can make another one, he said. “I don’t know if I can ever live up to that (one),” Battagler said.
