Area gridiron programs hit the road

Before Richmond, Orrick and Norborne Hardin-Central (NHC) started fall sports practices this week in high school football, they each got in one last summer road trip. Richmond visited Branson, where the Spartans participated in an 11-man scrimmage camp. Overall, Richmond varsity coach Nick Persell was pleased with how the Spartans performed at the July 26-27 camp. “I thought our kids competed really well,” Persell stated Monday via email. “We saw a number of kids make huge strides in just a few days.” The camp also provided a reminder of the Spartans’ strengths and question marks as they prepare for their season opener with New Madrid County Central Aug. 26 at Boonville. Their big strength is their experienced offensive line, according to Persell.
