Linda Kay Downs, 73, of Kearney was called to Heaven on Friday, July 21, 2023. Linda was born on Sept. 1, 1949, in Richmond to Russell and Iola (Norris) Phillips. She called Richmond and Ray County home for a good portion of her life, and she attended Richmond schools. She married the love of her life, Gary Downs, on Sept. 3, 1983. She and Gary shared a love for each other that was special and envied by many.

She had a love for everyone and a loving sense of humor that always lit up the room. She also had a million-dollar smile, contagious laugh and a heart of gold.

She loved her family, friends and Elvis. Linda is survived by her sons, Troy D. Brockman of Kearney and James M. Farris of Kansas City. She also is survived by her nieces, nephews and friends, who loved her very much.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Donald Phillips and Elwayne Phillips; and sisters, Shirley Danner and Janice Wrisinger.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Leukemia Foundation. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main St.-P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.

Funeral services with visitation were held on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m., followed by services at 10:30.

Linda was buried alongside her parents in Sunny Slope Cemetery, Richmond.
