Vietnam veterans honor fallen comrade with memorial sign
Three Vietnam veterans gathered at Southpoint Cemetery on a lonely hillside to pay their respects to Forrest Paul (FP) Dickey, who was killed in action 58 years ago on Dec. 1, 1966, while serving with the Fourth Infantry Division.
Due to the unwavering dedication of his fellow soldiers and family, a new memorial sign serving as a lasting tribute to Dickey’s bravery and sacrifice has been installed along Highway 210 close to Orrick.
The initiative to create this memorial was fueled by a years-long campaign led by Dickey’s former squad mates, who were determined to ensure that his legacy would not be forgotten. Their tireless advocacy and commitment reflect the profound impact Dickey had on their lives and the importance of remembering those who served. The sign now stands as a reminder of his sacrifice and the values he embodied.
