RICHMOND – There’s a new sheriff in town, as Scott Childers defeated Ray County Sheriff Garry Bush as part of a red tide that swept all state and county races. Childers, a Republican, said Tuesday that after he takes a trip with his family, he plans to focus on his new job. “We’re going to get started on looking at the budget, what we need to do about staffing changes and just moving forward with looking at getting some equipment, and training with other departments around the county to help us out,” he said. Childers thanked his supporters. “Man, you guys have been phenomenal,” he said to a group of supporters at the county courthouse. “This has been a rough four months and they stuck by me, they gave me encouraging words.
