State Rep. Terry Thompson encourages review of tax amendment
State Rep. Terry Thompson is urging Missouri voters to study a proposed constitutional amendment that could eventually eliminate the state’s individual income tax and significantly reshape the state’s tax structure.
The proposal, approved by the Missouri General Assembly through House Joint Resolutions 173 and 174, would ask voters whether the state should gradually phase out the individual income tax while allowing future changes to sales and use taxes to offset lost revenue.
Thompson recently released additional information outlining the proposal and encouraging constituents to educate themselves before the statewide vote.
In a report released to constituents, Thompson emphasized his vote on the resolution was intended to give Missouri residents the opportunity to decide the issue themselves rather than having lawmakers make the final determination.
“It is your decision and your vote that counts,” stated Thompson. “If there was ever a reason to vote, this resolution is it.”
