“I’m hungry,” was a daily question when family came home from school or work. Even when I reminded everyone when the next meal was, the question became, “What can I have now?” Snacks should be about quieting hunger and helping meet your daily nutritional needs. Snacks give your body a little boost between meals—for both kids and adults. This helps keep your energy up and boosts your brain power, too. A good snack should be nutrient-dense, not just a filler. Healthy snacks are usually around 100– 200 calories, with 15–30 grams of carbohydrates and 3–5 grams of protein. The right size snack keeps you going until your next meal. Candy, chips, and soda might curb your appetite, but they also add empty calories and lack nutrients. A smart snack means you’ll be less likely to overeat later.
