Orrick superintendent talks four-day school week
Orrick R-XI School District officials are reporting little change after moving to a four-day school week for the 20242025 school year.
The main difference between the five- and fourday school week has been school days are slightly longer and employment application numbers have increased, according to Superintendent Scott Guilkey.
“We don’t feel like the school year has been drastically different from an academic standpoint. Our days are slightly longer and there was some concern expressed initially about how our younger students would respond to the longer days, but it hasn’t been an issue,” said Guilkey, noting the flow of the school days is the same.
“From an organizational standpoint, the biggest difference has been with staffing and applicant numbers. Our applicant numbers increased and the quality and experience level of our applicant pool increased after the decision to move to a four-day calendar, which has been the biggest difference for our district,” he stated.
