Kansas woman dies on scene
A law enforcement pursuit of a woman accused of assault, speeding, and reckless operation ended in a fatality last week.
Sheila Roesch, 46, of Kansas, died on the scene on Oct. 30 after being pursued by a Ray County Sheriff’s (RCS) Deputy at approximately 6:31 a.m.
The accident occurred when Roesch drove onto NW Old Hwy 13, passed reflective barriers and hit a trailer-mounted diesel generator while traveling 120 miles per hour. Her vehicle was quickly engulfed in flames. Roesch was pronounced dead on the scene by Caldwell County Coroner Dana Brown.
Ray County Sheriff Scott Childers said her connection to Richmond was unknown.
“There was a fire dispatched north of Richmond and Richmond Fire Department (RFD) was headed to it. I had a deputy out and said he would head north and meet them at the scene of the fire,” said Childers.
During that time, RFD radioed to inform the department that a vehicle — later determined to have been driven by Roesch — had passed and almost hit them.
