Jones Store, third generation business closes a chapter

In a business-driven world, where small businesses are tested year after year to stay afloat and to thrive – The Jones Store owners Ernie and Nancy Jones know a thing or two about the topic. Ernie took the saying “Keeping up with the Joneses” seriously and is a third generational business owner. The business originally started in 1906 with Casey Jones, Sr. in a partnership with Harry Smith. The store was called “Smith and Shoop Hardware” and was located on the east side of Richmond square. “They did lots of things like heating, cooling, ductwork and sheet metal,” said Nancy. “In 1933 there was a fire, Smith stayed on the east side of the square and Jones moved to the west (where Macey Bail Bonds is currently) at 112 N College St. They varied what they did and did not compete much after that.” H.C.
