Gov. Parson addresses ongoing opioid abuse issue in Missouri

JEFFERSON CITY – Gov. Mike Parson said he supports a statewide prescription drug monitoring program to help combat the opioid epidemic. Parson addressed opioids and other issues targeted by media members last week during Missouri Press Day at the Capitol. This news paper reminded Parson the opioid crisis continues and asked whether he supports lawmakers who seek to create a statewide prescription drug monitoring program in this year’s legislative session. The question asked Jan. 28 followed the Jan. 27 shooting death of Elizabeth Michelle Adams, 31, Polo, during what might have been a drug-related attack. Kevin Lynn Barnett Jr., 35, Lawson, is under arrest in the Caldwell County Jail on first-degree murder and other charges.
