Farris hosts dramatic comedy play

In rural Missouri, small-town churches can be close-knit but a flash of the past may feel nostalgic for Ray Countians. The Farris Theater coordinated its yearly spring play and director McDavitt Rogers has chosen a dramatic comedy for the viewers. The nearly two-hour play will be shown June 9-11. Tickets are $12 per adult, $10 per student and seniors, while group tickets are $10 each for six or more people. Titled “First Baptist of Ivy Ga,” the play was written by Ron Osborne. It is the story of the six women gathering to roll bandages and plan the church’s 75th anniversary during World War II. The story begins in the 1940s and then jumps to the 1970s, following the women’s lives. Rogers explained the six ladies are Edith, the pastor’s wife; Luby, whose son is fighting in the Pacific; Mae Ellen, the church’s organist; Olene, who dreams of a career in Hollywood; Sammy, a shy newcomer with a secret; and Vera, an influential Baptist with a secret of her own. “All of them have their…
