Election reforms, newspaper bill advance in Missouri House

Missouri State Rep. Peggy McGaugh highlighted House passage of multiple bills and broader legislative action during the second half of the legislative session. The updates were included in McGaugh’s recently released April Capitol report, which outlined progress on election administration reforms, newspaper qualification legislation, the state operating budget and several additionalmeasures approved by the Missouri House. McGaugh, a Republican from Carrollton, represents the Seventh District, which includes part of Ray County, as well as Carroll, Linn, and Livingston counties. Among the measures highlighted in the report was House Bill 1871, Mc-Gaugh’s election administration bill, which she said passed the House with 128 “yes” votes. According to the report, HB 1871 would designate Aug. 12 of each year as Election Worker Appreciation Day and allow notices of election to be sent by email in lieu of direct mail.
