Drug court graduate confident about future

Dealing with any addiction is challenging, but not impossible, as the Ray County Drug Court program has proven. The Richmond courtroom was filled with family and friends of the program’s most recent graduate, Rickie Hicks, who is 490 days sober. Also on hand for the momentous event were Ray County Judge Kevin Walden, Probation and Parole Officer Kevin Sowers and Ray County Prosecuting Attorney Camille Johnston. Walden invited 2020 program graduate Kimberly James, who is nearly four years sober, to speak about her journey to sobriety. “She was a shining star in the program. She continues to shine,” Walden said. “I think when it’s dark outside and you look to the west — when you see that one star up there shining bright – I call the star ‘Kimberly.’ I would love for her to come up and talk with us,” Walden said.
