Commissioners discuss bill 190
Older Ray County residents are wondering if Ray County Commissioners will enact the senate bill which freezes property tax rates for residents ages 65 and older.
Senate Bill 190 was signed by Missouri Governor Mike Parson earlier this month.
The property tax break must be approved by each individual county.
Individual counties must approve the property tax breaks.
“We are aware of the bill and we are for it. We want to make sure we implement it the best way we can for the residents and we don’t want issues to arise,” said Presiding Commissioner Billy Gaines. To determine what the county will put into action, commissioners are in discussion with Ray County Collector Julie Chowning on the next steps.
The legislation also ends state taxes on Social Security benefits beginning in 2024.
Currently, Missouri residents only pay taxes on Social Security if they receive more than $85,000 a year. If married, couples are allowed to earn $100,000 a year or more. Lawmakers have extended the…
