Commission discusses senior center wages, road policy
Ray County commissioners spent much of their recent meeting grappling with concerns over the county senior center’s ability to sustain services, while also clarifying dust control policy for roads and reviewing economic development programs. The discussions reflected the board’s mix of fiscal oversight, operational issues and planning for community needs.
The meeting began with Bryan Couch presenting information about funding and staffing at the Senior Center. Commissioners noted challenges with wages and worries about whether the center could continue to recruit and retain staff under current pay scales. They described a need to address both immediate budget shortfalls and the longer-term picture for maintaining services to older residents.
Couch framed the challenge directly.
“We’ve got to look at these wages if we expect the senior center to keep operating the way it should,” said Couch.
