Ray County commissioners approved three highway safety grants last week that will fund year-round traffic enforcement and the purchase of a new patrol radio for the sheriff’s office. The action cleared two $4,000 federal contracts for impaired driving and hazardous moving enforcement and authorized a radio purchase through MoDOT’s Strategic Highway Safety Plan. Reserve Captain Devin Lambeth of the Ray County Sheriff’s Office introduced the requests. “My area of expertise is highway traffic safety,” said Lambeth, who represents Ray County on the Kansas City Coalition for Roadway Safety Board of Directors. Lambeth wrote and was awarded three grants, which he presented for commissioners’ approval. Lambeth explained the first grant covers a new patrol radio.
