Cold, hard truth of impaired driving played out for RHS teens

Richmond High School students witnessed a simulated drunk driving accident on Wednesday, April 10. The program is designed to convey the possible consequences of driving impaired in real time. Docudramas have taken place at the high school since 1993 and take place every three to four years. “They are intended to take place just prior to the prom/graduation season so that it is fresh in their minds during those highrisk times,” said Fire Chief Mark Sowder. Planning begins months before the event to coordinate with all the participating departments including Ray County 911, Richmond Police Department (RPD), Richmond Fire Department (RFD), Ray County Ambulance (RCA), Lifeflight Eagle, Ray County Coroner and Richmond High School administration. The high school theater department and speech and debate team are involved as well.
