RICHMOND – The Missouri Cattlemen’s Association expressed thanks for a letter sent to U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue to urge relief for cattle producers hurt by the COVID-19 pandemic. A bipartisan group of over 145 lawmakers from both chambers of Congress signed the letter. “The COVID-19 crisis has resulted in economic and financial destruction for Missouri cattle producers. Relief is absolutely needed immediately for these families. We certainly appreciate our congressional delegation for standing firm for Missouri cattle producers,” MCA Executive Vice President Mike Deering said. “We also want to make abundantly clear that, while these shortterm solutions are critically important, we must remain laser focused on long-term structural changes in our cattle markets to truly benefit cattle-producing families.” The Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act includes provisions that replenished USDA’s Commodity Credit Corp.’s borrowing authority back to the…
