HIGGINSVILLE – Sophomore Kaylee Pugh and senior Abrey Oldham had their handoffs down pat in the girls 400- and 800-meter relays for Richmond at Tuesday’s Rob Hoefer Husker Invitational. Pugh ran the leadoff leg of both races.

LEXINGTON – Richmond nearly swept Tuesday’s Tri-County Meet at Gil Rector Stadium. Led by wins in six events, the varsity girls cruised to the team title with 182.5 points – 68 points ahead of runner-up Wellington-Napoleon.

RICHMOND – Senior Lexi Bokarae has played her share of regular basketball. But until March 21, she had never played donkey basketball.

ODESSA – Richmond senior pitcher Lucas Rodenberg flirted with a no-hitter. And the Spartans flirted with winning their final baseball game of the Odessa Tournament.

RICHMOND – The Spartans’ new head track and field coach is not new to the Richmond School District. Or to Richmond track and field.

RICHMOND – Half of Richmond’s boys golf team made a quick transition from trying to sink two- and three-point buckets to trying to sink putts. As of March 14, there were six student-athletes out for golf, coach Murray Dennis said.

RICHMOND – The Spartans have “the most skilled team we’ve had in a little while” this varsity baseball season, senior Lucas Rodenberg said. “We’re looking pretty solid,” he said after a March 3 practice at Southview Park.

ORRICK – Coach Mitch Comstock starts over this season with Orrick’s golf program. All Bearcats who played in 2021 have graduated, including his son, Dylan Comstock, last season’s Class 1 state champion, now a first-year men’s golfer at Park University in Parkville; and Bishop Grimm, a state qualifier last season and the nephew of retired sports editor Russ Green.
