Spartans Win over the Huskers

First win over the Huskers since 2020. The Spartan Football Team defeated the Lafayette County Huskers 61-7 during their matchup in late September. This was the first time in five years that the Spartans have defeated the Huskers in football. Since 2020, the Huskers have become a more ambitious team and created a heated rivalry with the Spartans. “It has gotten more serious with [the Huskers] as the team south of the river has become non-competitive,” said Coach Colby Bowers. This rivalry with the Huskers has overtaken the Spartan’s long-time rivalry with the Lexington Minutemen and therefore become more significant to the students at RHS. A win of this magnitude doesn’t happen without a stellar performance from quarterback, junior Jacob Lieberknecht. “It felt amazing beating a team that we hate by this many points. It is a team that has had our number over the past few years so it was nice to finally get payback.” Jacob went on to comment on how he couldn’t have risen to this level…
