First win over the Huskers since 2020. The Spartan Football Team defeated the Lafayette County Huskers 61-7 during their matchup in late September. This was the first time in five years that the Spartans have defeated the Huskers in football. Since 2020, the Huskers have become a more ambitious team and created a heated rivalry with the Spartans. “It has gotten more serious with [the Huskers] as the team south of the river has become non-competitive,” said Coach Colby Bowers. This rivalry with the Huskers has overtaken the Spartan’s long-time rivalry with the Lexington Minutemen and therefore become more significant to the students at RHS. A win of this magnitude doesn’t happen without a stellar performance from quarterback, junior Jacob Lieberknecht. “It felt amazing beating a team that we hate by this many points.
