Posted in:
Richmond and Hardin-Central both advanced through the first round of district softball. A 1-0 win over St. Joseph Lafayette Tuesday at Heritage Park in St. Joseph put Richmond (18-11-1) in the Class 2 District 8 semifinals against top-seeded Chillicothe. Chillicothe (24-6) drew a first-round bye. At press time, the Spartans and Hornets were slated to face off Thursday at Heritage Park, with the winner to play for the district title at 11 a.m. Saturday, also at Heritage Park. Hardin-Central opened the Class 1 District 12 Tournament Tuesday by thumping Hale/Bosworth 16-3 in Brunswick. The win put the Bulldogs in the semifinals Wednesday against Braymer/Breckenridge, also at Brunswick, with the winner slated to play for the district title Thursday. Like Chillicothe, Braymer/Breckenridge is the top seed and drew a first-round bye.
