RHS gives Hyder, Hutchings sendoff for state
Brady Hyder and Madix Hutchings got heroes’ sendoffs Tuesday afternoon from their Richmond High School classmates, faculty and administrators.
With a drum corps leading the way, Hyder and Hutchings were paraded through the school halls before leaving for Columbia to compete Wednesday and Thursday at the Class 2 state high school wrestling tournament at Mizzou Arena. Final results were unavailable at press time.
It was Hutchings’ second trip to state and Hyder’s first. The two juniors secured spots at state by placing in the top four at Class 2 District 4 competition, held Feb. 21-22 at Excelsior Springs. Hutchings placed third in the 144-pound division, capping his tournament run with a win over Cameron’s Brodi Jones by a 10-4 decision.
“He wrestled smart,” Richmond coach Cody Hogan said. “He stayed in control. He stayed patient. He did exactly what he needed to do.”
