New Orrick girls coach urges ’Cats to seize the day

Jonathan Kinder, Orrick’s new varsity girls basketball coach, is working to instill a seize-the-day attitude in his Bearcats. “I tell the girls all the time, ‘You never know when your last game’s going to be. It could be a freak injury; something could happen on your way home from school – you just never know. So treat every game like it’s your last game and then treat every year like it’s your senior year,’” Kinder said Nov. 11 in the Orrick High School gym. It literally is the senior year for one Bearcat: Natasha Hicks. Hicks sees her spot as the lone senior as a blessing for the program. “I think that it’s going to give the girls a strong … base going into next year – only losing one person,” she said. Hicks’ opinion is based on experience. “I think it was my sophomore year going into my junior year we had no seniors, and I think that really helped us … build a team,” she said.
