Capturing great moment makes sports shutterbug think
Emmalea Kilpatrick got me to thinking. Or rather, taking a picture of her did.
Kilpatrick, as many of you know, is a senior at Richmond High School whose extracurricular activities include basketball and track. While covering the Richmond Winter Classic in late January, I photographed her reaching for a secondhalf rebound during the fifth-place game with Oak Grove at Richmond Middle School. The picture, which appeared on page 16 of last week’s issue, has drawn some newsroom compliments.
The picture, the reaction and turning 55 a few weeks earlier got me to thinking about a sports photography bucket list – that is, what types of sports photos I would like to capture before I go to that great darkroom in the sky/next parallel universe/next plane of existence after death. Here is the list so far:
