Richmond News introduces our new summer intern

Body
Growing up in Ray County has instilled a deep sense of pride in me, making it incredibly humbling to be able to contribute to my hometown paper. My name is Joshua Brungardt, and I have lived in Ray County my whole life. After graduating from Richmond High School in 2021, I embarked on the next chapter of my academic journey at Truman State University, where I am currently studying communication. My ultimate goal is to carve out a career in sports broadcasting, leveraging my passion for sports and communication into a fulfilling profession.

Imagine waking up one day with a stray kitten who wouldn’t leave your side. A kitten who needed your affection as much as you needed his. Brandi Stephens had this experience with a black cat named Velcro. She named him so because he was constantly attached to her. On her lap, on her shoulder like a parrot, on her feet if she was standing. When there was pain in her soul, like when she lost her first husband, Willie, he was there to comfort her. Today, however, Velcro is gone. Velcro was taken from us.

It is the time of year when we as Americans remember and celebrate what it means to live in this great nation. With Memorial Day, D-Day, Flag Day and the Fourth of July filling our summer with family outings, barbeque, and fireworks do we ever really take time to honor the people who came before us, whose courage paved the way for the freedoms we have today. I was recently reminded how important this is and wanted to share the story of a childhood neighbor, a real-life Rosie the Riveter.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Bravo Richmond! I have lived in Richmond only a year and am impressed with the various offerings to kids young and old. From the skateboard park to disk golf courses and regular golf course, bowling alley, tennis courts, various ball diamonds and youth sport facilities. Richmond has as much or more to offer than towns 10 times her size. I am also pleased by the support the schools receive and was blown away at the participation for the homecoming parade and various programs targeting kids at the Ray County Library.
