Leo “Wayne” Downer, 89, of Rayville, MO passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on Aug. 15, 2022. He was born on Feb. 4, 1933 in Appleton City, MO to Inez (Murphy) and George Downer.  

Wayne drove an ammunitions truck during the Korean War, receiving an honorable discharge from the Army. He continued driving 18 wheels for a living until he was into his 80s. His hobbies were raising cattle, bailing hay with his stepson, David, and spending time with his family.  

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley (Tackett); infant son Robert; daughter Vicki Romang; and sons-in-law Lynn Hodges, Darrel Robb, and Dewayne Hayes.  

Survivors include his second wife, Beverly (Covey); daughters Rita Hodges, Linda Robb, Connie Hayes and Jane Downer; stepdaughters Tina (Mike) Dial and Delores Kinser; stepsons James Ballinger, David (Susan) Ballinger, Michael Ballinger, Dale (Lori) Ballinger; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to Reno Ranch, 6219 Hwy T, Camden, MO 64017 in honor of Wayne.
