Gregory Kent “Greg” Norris
Gregory Kent “Greg” Norris, 66, of Lee’s Summit, MO, formerly of Richmond, MO, and Columbia, MO, passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 19, 2022.
Greg was born in Lexington, MO, on May 10, 1956.
He graduated from Richmond High School in 1974, where he was a member of the 1971 State Champion Football Team. He attended William Jewel College, where he was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. He transferred to the University of Missouri, Columbia, in the fall of 1976. He remained in Columbia, working for UPS, for 37 years. He enjoyed driving his “little brown truck” on country roads, making friends along the way.
While in Columbia, he reconnected with Kim Swafford Ray, also a graduate of RHS.
After retiring, he and Kim moved to Lee’s Summit, where he enjoyed spending time with Kim’s family and his close friends. He loved sports, whether it was playing golf with his buds, fishing at the lake condo, bird hunting with his friends and his beloved dogs, or sitting in his recliner watching MU Tigers, Royals, and especially cheering on the Chiefs.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Edward Norris and Peggy (Minnick) Norris; and his sister, Jenny Riley.
He is survived by his loving companion, Kim Swafford Ray; her two sons, their spouses, and five grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brother-in-law, Chuck Riley, of Carrollton, MO; and his three nephews, Blake (Amanda) Riley and their three children of Carrollton, MO, Reid Riley of Marshall, MO, and Spencer Riley of Sikeston, MO.
Greg had fond memories of spending time with his many cousins.
Greg never met a stranger. His easy way and broad smile endeared him to so many. He always thought the best of everyone. Greg was known to many as a fun-loving hippie. His friends will always remember his sunglasses and hat, waving a peace sign, and telling them to “Rock On.”
Greg was a member of the First Baptist Church of Richmond, MO.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the ALS Association. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.
