Thanksgiving dinner site changes

RICHMOND – The plan is to hold the annual community Thanksgiving meal, but the location will change, based on a discussion with Rev. Phillip Powers and a Ray County Commission decision. The commission closed the Ray County Senior Center to keep the area’s older residents safe during the coronavirus pandemic. Because the Thanksgiving meal has taken place at the center in previous years, Powers said the three churches responsible for the dinner decided to move the location. “We’re going to be having it at one of our churches,” Powers said. Leaders from the Assembly of God, St. John Christian Methodist Episcopal Church and New Beginnings will meet to discuss the alternative location and whether there will be delivery only or a sitdown dinner, he said. The dinner takes place, typically, the Saturday before Thanksgiving, but a firm date has not been set for this year, Powers said. “I will talk to the others and see if they want to do a different day, but that usually is what we do,”…
