RICHMOND – The car is not new, but a used car will do for Ray County Emergency Management Coordinator Ryan Dickey. A few modifications expected to cost $400 and the cost of insurance are all that is needed to turn the used car into something he can use, Dickey told the Ray County Commission on Monday. Dickey said he received the 2006 Ford Explorer from Sheriff Scott Childers. The car will need to be insured, plus a blue light bar and a siren to become suitable for emergency responses, such as tornadoes, and for other uses, such as Community Emergency Response Team work, he said. Presiding Commissioner Bob King asked whether the CERT team remains operational. “There are seven people on the team,” Dickey said. Adding the blue light bar and siren will cost about $800, but a grant is expected to cover half of that amount for the county, he said.
