RICHMOND – Laura Allen is teaching a new course, small engines, at Richmond High School. The course has 13 students, five donated engines from Briggs & Stratton, nine donated engines from Kohler Engines and more than $9,000 in tools and equipment. A Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Career & Technical Education grant and school district support bought tools and equipment. “The students have been anxiously awaiting to perform the initial test run of the Briggs & Stratton 1150 series 250cc engines OHV single-cylinder engines,” Allen stated. “The initial test run ensures the engines run before students start taking them apart. So far in the semester, students have learned engine components and operation, 4-stroke and 2-stroke theory.” Students will tear the engine down to the block, learning how each part works before reassembling. “The goal of the class is for each student to pass the Briggs & Stratton techni-
