RICHMOND – The investigation continues this morning into a possible homicide, Sheriff Scott Childers said.

An adult suspect has been taken into custody and an adult’s body has been located, but details are not being released at the moment.

Law enforcers throughout the area assisted in arresting the suspect following a chase.

“We did a really good job. We got us a homicide suspect,” Childers said.

Work continues to lock down details, he said.

“We pretty much feel that we know what happened, where it happened at, but we have to confirm because it involved three counties,” Childers said Tuesday.

At this point, what is known is the Ray County Sheriff’s Office received a call about 1 p.m. Monday that a homicide had occurred and a suspect drove into Ray County. Sheriff’s deputies worked with a Kansas City Police Department helicopter, the Missouri Highway Patrol, Richmond Police Department and the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office to locate the subject. They caught up with the suspect along Highway 10 in the vicinity of Elkhorn Elementary School in the Excelsior Springs School District portion of Ray County. The school went into lockdown.
