High school principal talks credit-based programs
Dual credit and student work options at Richmond High School (RHS) were discussed during a recentlyRichmond R-XVI School District meeting.
RHS Principal Brandon Quick said students are losing interest in several history classes because they are not dual credit. Dual credit is a program which allows high school students to enroll in college courses prior to high school graduation, allowing the student to simultaneously receive credit in both high school and college.
High school administration has begun the application process for dual credit classes in the social studies department, according to Quick.
“The courses we are looking into are American history and possibly world history. When we’re looking at our advanced placement (AP) courses in history – the enrollment has dropped precipitously because kids would rather take dual credit than a new AP class due to there not being the highstakes test, plus they get college credit,” the principal said.
