H-C softballers become early risers after day of July heat
HARDIN – Abby McNelly and Brogan DeMint are morning people. At least when it comes to softball.
Doyle and DeMint were among the Hardin-Central varsity and junior high softballers who weathered through the July heat Monday afternoon at the Hardin American Legion and Auxiliary ballfields as the Bulldogs got this week’s team camp underway. And they were among the Bulldogs who were pleased when varsity coach Brandee Doyle opted to start subsequent practices at 5:30 a.m.
“I love morning practices,” DeMint, a varsity infielder, said. “I think they’re easier to deal with.”
Morning practices leave the rest of the day free, DeMint said. And, of course, it is cooler then.
“It’s a lot better for us,” she said.
DeMint, McNelly and their fellow Bulldogs are focusing on fielding this week, with plans to get in some batting reps “towards the end of the week,” Doyle said. For the first day, they went over “a lot of basics,” the veteran skipper said.
“I’ve got a few girls that are running comp ball…
