County moves on bridge replacement

RICHMOND – The newly seated Ray County Commission has agreed to allow Howe Co. LLC to proceed with documentation work for replacing the Morton Bridge. “A lot of farmers use it,” Presiding Commissioner Bob King said during a commission meeting. Replacing the structure could cost up to $875,000, based on a preliminary estimate, Howe Co.’s Jon Dwiggins said. King said he agreed with former Commissioners Jerry Bishop and Allen Dale, who retired from office to start the year, that the Morton Bridge should be a priority project. “You want to do it right,” Commissioner Gary Wilhite said. An 80-20 grant would pay for the bridge. In essence, all funds would come from the state and federal governments. Commissioner Dave Powell raised the possibility of moving the old bridge to another location. A similar situation occurred with the former Linn Branch Creek bridge in Platte County. That bridge, now called the Waddell “A” truss bridge, rests within English Landing Park, Parkville. The…
