Company disputes assertions raised in public meeting

Following public comments during a recent Ray County Commission meeting which raised concerns about towing practices, business locations and confusion involving two towing companies sharing the Shoemaker name, the owner of Shoemaker Tow LLC has responded to the allegations. During the meeting, Cindy Shoemaker Hewitt and Roberta Shoemaker told commissioners they believed another towing company with the same last name was arriving at crash scenes without being called, monitoring radio traffic, causing confusion for dispatch and creating problems for other tow operators. They also discussed a court case involving the use of the family name and asked the county to consider an ordinance similar to Clay County’s rules for wreck chasing. Throughout the public comment session, commenters did not identify the other towing company by name.
