Bible Assembly Conference kicks off this weekend

The 17th annual Send the Light Richmond Bible Assembly Conference will take place Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Branded Theater from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The goal is to assemble and send 5,000 Bibles to the island of Mindanao located in the Philippines. “Everyone is invited,” said Farrell Hockemeier. “Come help us make Bibles.”The conference started in 2006, when people of all denominations came together at the old high school gym to assemble 11,161 Spanish New Testament Bibles for missionaries in Cuba. Since then, the community has sent Bibles to Guatemala, Mexico, Haiti, Peru, Africa, Suriname and the Philippines. The island of Mindanao, the second largest island in the Philippines, is the seventh most populated in the world with a population over 26 million and over 36,680 square miles. Through history, the island has been through many religion changes; Buddhist, Muslim and onto Catholicism when the Spanish colonized the island in the 1500’s. Of the households, 62% follow…
