American Celebration’s back at Southview Park

RICHMOND – The annual American Celebration, including fireworks, is set to take place Friday, July 2, at Southview Park, 333 E. South St. “We have a full schedule of the events that we’ve had going on in the past,” Richmond Chamber of Commerce Director Carolyn Arney said. The celebration almost did not take place last year because of coronavirus concerns, but the Richmond Rotary Club stepped up to lead a $10,000 fundraising drive that paid for the fireworks show. “We are forever grateful for that,” Arney said. “They decided that we at least needed fireworks in the middle of COVID, so they took it upon themselves to step up and raise the money for us.” The usual related festivities did not take place last year to reduce gatherings that could have spread the virus. This year’s full slate of festivities begins at 5 p.m., with the Spartan Shaved Ice Truck available until 8 and free swimming until 8:30 at Southview Pool. “Everyone’s excited.
