With Richmond hosting its final home track and field meet Tuesday, it was decided to honor the seniors in the program in mid-April, rather than near the end of the spring sports season. And so, near the end of Tuesday’s Hoot Middleton Invitational, a Senior Night ceremony was held for the nine seniors in the program – six boys and three girls, including one manager.

Richmond High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) students recently completed their Donkey Basketball Fundraiser. FFA teacher Laura Allen said the fundraiser had students, teachers, citizens and supporters played basketball while riding donkeys.

Senior Jack Gogue found that a relaxed, steady pace served him well Tuesday during Richmond’s triangular with Lexington and Carrollton at Shirkey Golf Course. Gogue shot a 42 (+6) for his ninehole, par-36 round – his best round this season, according to Richmond golf coach Murray Dennis.

Richmond had a breakthrough during Monday’s 6-4 road loss to Knob Noster in varsity baseball, according to coach Nick Persell. “We played our best offensive game of the season,” Persell stated Wednesday via email.

TRIO OF CHAMPIONS A trio of champions of led Richmond Tuesday at the Central Methodist University High School Invitational at Fayette. Kaylee Pugh and Genevieve Didier were the individual champions for the Richmond girls, who placed second among 10 schools with 99 points.

David Rash is back coaching track and field. Rash, a former assistant track coach at Cameron and head coach at Orrick, is Richmond’s new varsity boys and girls coach.

Thanks largely to a German exchange student, Richmond has something it hasn’t had since 2019: a high school boys tennis team. Coached by Brett Terry, who also coaches Richmond’s girls program, the team consisted of seven players as of March 14.

In 2022, Richmond varsity baseball coach Nick Persell and his Spartans played for a district title. In 2023, they want to win one.
